6.2.4 Materials, minimum dimensions and installation dimensions for air-termination systems

The air-termination systems of lightning protection systems must be able to safely conduct electrical currents and withstand mechanical stresses. The choice of material with the appropriate cross-sections is therefore based on electrical conductivity to prevent impermissible temperature increases, sufficient tensile strength and impact resistance under mechanical stress, and long-term corrosion resistance. Minimum and installation dimensions must be specified in such a way that functional safety is permanently ensured.
Materials, shapes and minimum cross-sections of air-termination conductors, air-termination rods, down conductors and earth entry conductors are specified in Table 6.2.4.1 and must comply with the requirements and tests of standard IEC 62561-2.
