5.3.3 Specification of the surge protection (SPD)

Objective
SPDs protect electrical systems from transient overvoltages caused by lightning strikes or switching operations. Missing or incorrectly specified SPDs lead to device failures and high follow-up costs. Therefore, the protection objectives must be defined and all relevant information about the system must be available so that a suitable surge protection concept can be created (Figure 5.3.3.1).
