5.2.1.2 Building modelling in DEHNplan
hree-dimensional modelling of buildings is a fundamental prerequisite for the professional planning of lightning protection and earthing systems. In CAD systems such as DEHNplan, building data is usually recorded in a purpose-oriented manner, with the geometric representation reduced to the structures relevant for the technical planning task.
Simplified volume model
A simplified volume model that depicts the basic shape of the building structure is often sufficient for representing the outer building envelope. This modelling can be carried out with or without a roof structure. The roof style can also be added later if necessary, especially if the planning of air-termination systems or down conductors requires this (Figure 5.2.1.2.1). Reducing the design to essential components enables efficient processing and minimises the effort required for model management.
