5.2.5.1 Lightning protection planning based on 3D building models

The planning of an external lightning protection system is carried out in the DEHNplan software solution based on a three-dimensional building model. This model forms the central basis for all planning steps and enables a precise and standard-compliant design of the lightning protection system.
The 3D model can be used to position air-termination systems, down conductors and earthing systems in a focussed and efficient manner. DEHNplan supports this process through a combination of semi-automated functions and manual intervention options. For example, air-termination systems can be automatically suggested and placed along roof edges or on roof surfaces in accordance with normative specifications. At the same time, the option for individual customisation remains available at all times.
This flexible approach allows for needs-based planning – regardless of the complexity of the structure. Both simple buildings and sophisticated architectural structures can be equipped with an external lightning protection system efficiently and in compliance with regulations using DEHNplan.
